Upload a new PDF version – same link
Replace the PDF file of a saved publication, for example after a correction. The link, embed codes, statistics, settings and your interactive content stay as they are.
You can replace the PDF file of a saved publication – for example after a correction – without creating a new project. The link, embed codes, statistics, settings and your interactive content stay. Readers see the new version only after you click Replace.
Step by step
- In the Workspace, open the ⋯ menu on the project tile and choose Edit Project.
- In the right column of the editor, find New PDF version and click Upload a new PDF version. Choose the new file.
- Viewnamic reads the file and shows a summary: the new page count, pages whose size differs and any areas on pages the new PDF no longer has. Click Upload new version.
- The editor opens again with the new PDF and the notice The new PDF version is loaded. Check your areas, above all on pages whose size changed. To move an area, click the pencil icon next to it.
- Click Replace to publish the new version. Reject keeps the published version.
Replace deletes the previous PDF file, and Reject discards the new file together with all other changes since you last published. Neither can be undone – keep a copy of the old file if you might need it again.
What stays the same
- The link of the publication – and with it every place you shared it, such as emails, QR codes or social posts.
- Embed codes on websites, secure links and the access mode.
- Statistics, name, upload date and position on your public page.
- Your interactive content: each area keeps its page and position.
Pages and areas
If the new PDF has the same layout, all areas sit in the right place. If pages were added, removed or changed in size, check the areas there before you publish: areas on pages the new PDF no longer has are removed. Double-page spreads are split into single pages, as at the first upload.
Your readers
Until you click Replace, readers see the previous version. Afterwards, everyone who opens the publication gets the new one – also in embeds on your website, with no change needed there. Readers who have the publication open at that moment may see the previous version a little longer; the viewer then switches to the new one at the same page – or they get it when they reload. The cover picture is made again from page 1, and the Reading Mode text is updated from the new PDF the next time you open your Workspace. Social networks may show the old preview picture for a while.
When a file is refused
- It is the same file that is already published.
- The PDF already belongs to another project of yours – delete that project first or choose another file.
- It has more pages than your plan allows, or it doesn’t fit into your storage. The new file is counted instead of the old one.
Questions
Can I go back to the previous version?
Only by uploading the old file again as a new version. After Replace, Viewnamic deletes the previous file, so keep a copy.
Do I have to update the embed code on my website?
No. The embed shows the publication, so it shows the new version as soon as you click Replace.
Do my statistics start from zero?
No. Views and reading sessions stay with the publication and simply continue with the new version.
