Add an image slideshow to a PDF
Show several pictures one after another in one area of a PDF page. You choose the images and their order in the Viewnamic editor; readers browse with arrows or watch them change.
An image slideshow shows several pictures one after another in one area of your PDF page – product photos, a building from several sides, before-and-after pictures. You choose the images and their order in the Viewnamic editor; readers browse with arrows or watch the pictures change by themselves.
Step by step
- Open your PDF in the editor (see Editor basics), click Add area, drag a rectangle and click Save.
- Click the area and open the Slideshow tab.
- On the left, under Slideshow images, select images you uploaded before. To add new ones, click Select images and choose JPG, PNG or WebP files.
- On the right, under Slideshow order, arrange the images with Move up and Move down, or take one out with Remove.
- Click Create slideshow. A slideshow needs at least two images and can hold up to 100.
- Click the pencil icon next to the area, choose the settings (below) and click Save.
- Publish with Save or Replace.
Slideshow settings
- Controls – arrows for the previous and next image and a close button.
- Loop – after the last image, the first one follows. Without it, a slideshow that plays by itself closes after the last image, and the arrows stop at the last image.
- Auto – the slideshow appears as soon as the page is shown. Without it, readers open it with the icon on the area. Without Controls, Auto is always on.
- Play – the images change by themselves; set the seconds per image (1 to 10).
- Transition – Simple change or a slide-in from one of four directions, plus a Transition speed slider.
- Content fit – fit each image whole with a white, black, transparent or custom background, Fill (Crop) or Stretch.
New slideshows start with Controls, Loop, Auto and Play switched on and 3 seconds per image. If you change the images of a slideshow later, its settings stay.
What readers see
With Auto, the first image fills the area as soon as the page appears; otherwise readers see an images icon and open the slideshow with a click. With Controls, they browse with the arrows (up and down for vertical transitions) and go back to the PDF page with the close button. Without Controls, a click on the running slideshow stops the automatic change. Readers whose device is set to reduce motion don’t get the automatic change; they browse with the arrows instead, also without Controls.
Your images in the Workspace
All slideshow images stay in your profile under Workspace → Your dynamic content → Slideshows, where you can also upload new ones (Upload slideshow images). The button Edit accessibility information on an image lets you add an Alternative text and a Long description, or mark it as Decorative slideshow image. Screen readers announce the alternative text of the image on screen; readers also find these details under Accessibility information in the viewer and in the Reading Mode.
A slideshow counts as one item of interactive content in your plan, however many images it has. The Publisher plan doesn’t include slideshows. See Pricing.
Questions
Can I change the images or their order later?
Yes. In the editor, click the slideshow icon next to the area in the right column, change the selection or order and click Create slideshow. The slideshow keeps its settings; publish the change with Replace.
Do all images need the same size?
No. With a Fit setting each image is shown whole, with your background colour around it; Fill (Crop) fills the area and cuts off the edges.
