Present a PDF in meetings: Presentation view in the viewer
Presentation shows your PDF one page at a time in fullscreen, without the top bar. Start it with the view button or Alt/Option + P, turn the pages with the arrow keys or a presentation remote, and end it with Esc.
To present a PDF in a meeting or on a big screen, open the publication in the Viewnamic viewer and choose Presentation with the view button in the top bar – or press Alt + P (Mac: Option + P). The viewer switches to fullscreen and shows one page at a time, as large as the screen allows, on a black background. The arrow keys turn the pages, and Esc ends the presentation.
Start Presentation
- Open the publication at the page you want to start with – Presentation begins there.
- Click the view button in the top bar – it shows the current view, for example Scroll view – and choose Presentation. Or hold Alt (Mac: Option) and press P.
On tablets, phones and in narrow windows, Presentation is in the menu at the left of the top bar. All views: Views in the viewer.
What your audience sees
- One page at a time, whole and as large as the screen allows, on black.
- No top bar – it hides itself, so its handle is not shown. Move the pointer to the top edge of the screen – on a touch screen, tap there – to show it.
- No “powered by” or “More from” badge and no line with the privacy policy and imprint.
- No zoom: the zoom buttons are off, and zoom gestures do nothing. To show a detail larger, zoom in Scroll view (see Reading a publication).
Move through the pages
- Next page: →, ↓ or Page Down. Previous page: ←, ↑ or Page Up. In Presentation these keys work without Alt, and a presentation remote (clicker) that sends them works too.
- Quick presses are not lost: the viewer goes straight to the page you end on.
- To jump to a page, type its number into the page field of the top bar and press Enter. Then click the page so that Page Up and Page Down turn pages again.
- Clicking, tapping or swiping on the page does not turn it.
Videos, 3D models and other content
- Videos and 3D models do not start by themselves and show no buttons. On such a page, the first press of → (or ↓, Page Down) starts them: a video plays with sound if Sound is on for it, and a 3D model turns if Auto rotate is set – otherwise the next press starts the turning. While they run, the next press goes to the next page.
- Going back, ← (or ↑, Page Up) first stops a started video or model, then removes it from the page, then goes to the previous page.
- Audio, slideshows and links work as in the other views. Audio set to keep playing on other pages goes on in the bottom right corner when you turn the page; other audio pauses.
- Click dummies are not shown – switch to Scroll view for them.
- Switching to Presentation closes a floating video window.
End Presentation
Press Esc or Alt/Option + F, or click the fullscreen button in the top bar (in narrow windows, in the menu): fullscreen and Presentation end together, and the viewer shows the current page in Scroll view. Choosing Scroll, Grid or Magazine view also leaves fullscreen – unless you had switched it on before starting Presentation.
When Presentation is missing or does not start
- Publications that open in Magazine view do not offer Presentation: they are laid out in double pages, Presentation shows single pages. See Magazine view with page-flip effect.
- Presentation needs the browser’s fullscreen. Where there is none – in Safari on iPhone, for example, or in an embed whose website does not allow fullscreen – the viewer shows Scroll view instead. Viewnamic’s embed code allows fullscreen. Where a website does not allow it, the fullscreen button opens the publication in a new tab, where Presentation works on a computer.
Tips for meetings
Presentation fills the screen the browser window is on: for a projector or a second screen, move the window there first, then start Presentation. In a video call, share that screen.
Presentation is part of every plan.
Questions
Can a publication open directly in Presentation?
No. A publication opens in Scroll or Magazine view. Switch to Presentation with the view button or Alt/Option + P – it starts at the page you are on.
Does a presentation remote (clicker) work?
Yes, if it sends Page Down / Page Up or the arrow keys. In Presentation these keys turn the pages without Alt; on a page with a video or 3D model, the first forward press starts it.
Why does the viewer show Scroll view when I choose Presentation?
Presentation needs the browser’s fullscreen. Safari on iPhone has none for web pages, and some websites embed publications without allowing fullscreen. On a computer, open the publication in its own tab and choose Presentation there.
