Reader statistics and privacy

Viewnamic’s reader statistics work without cookies and store no IP addresses. Readers who send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted, and the data is deleted after 12 months.

Updated

Viewnamic measures how your publications are read – not who reads them. Reader statistics work without cookies, store no IP addresses and respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. They are kept on servers in Germany and deleted automatically after 12 months – or with your account when it is deleted.

What is recorded for a visit

  • Which publication was opened and when.
  • The active reading time and which pages and views were used.
  • What readers did with the content: video and audio plays, opened 3D models, slideshows and click dummies, clicks on links, downloads and clicks on your logo or the viewer’s badges.
  • Browser family (for example Chrome or Safari), operating system, device type (desktop, tablet or mobile) and the browser’s first language. They come from the information every browser sends with a request; nothing is read from the reader’s device.

What you see of it is described in Publication statistics.

What is not recorded

  • No cookies, and nothing is stored in the reader’s browser for statistics. Each time the publication is opened, the visit gets a new identifier.
  • No IP address. The browser connects to viewnamic.com like to any website, but the address is not stored with the statistics.
  • No exact browser version, screen size or window size.
  • No location.
  • No names or email addresses of readers of public and link-only publications – they need no account. Secure links are the exception, see below.

When nothing is counted

  • The reader’s browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control: no visit is recorded – neither in the viewer nor on your public page.
  • Live examples on the Viewnamic website and the preview in the Embed PDF window.
  • Previews made without an account – see Try Viewnamic without an account.

With secure sharing, every recipient opens the publication with a personal link and a code sent to their email address. For these links you see, next to each recipient’s email address, when the publication was opened. More in Share a PDF securely.

Your public page

On your public page, Viewnamic counts page views and which publication cards were shown and opened. Of the page a visitor came from, only its address without parameters is kept; from it, Viewnamic also tells a new visit from moving between the pages of your public page. The same rules apply: no cookies, no IP address, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control respected.

Where the data is stored and for how long

Statistics are stored at IONOS in Germany. Reader statistics and the statistics of your public page are deleted automatically after 12 months.

Good to know

Questions

Will my readers see a cookie banner because of Viewnamic?

Viewnamic sets no cookies for reader statistics and shows no cookie banner in the viewer. Whether your own website needs a banner depends on everything else on it – please ask your data protection adviser.

Can I see how a single reader moved through my PDF?

No. The Pages panel shows per page only how many visits read it and their average reading time – never the path or the times of a single visit.
