L'AMBIGUÏTÉ

The central thesis of my bachelor collection, L'ambiguïté de la vie, is that deconstructivism can be meaningfully combined with sustainable design principles, particularly upcycling.

Accordingly, the collection focuses on upcycling as a sustainable and conceptual design strategy. The collection title, which translates to “the ambiguity of life”, refers to the multifaceted role clothing plays in our lives. It also relates to the name of my brand, Sens Ambigu, which is derived from the French words sens (meaning) and ambigu (ambiguous), and thus literally signifies an ambiguous meaning.

Both Sens Ambigu and the collection title L'ambiguïté de la vie express the conceptual intention of my work on multiple levels. They stand for the ambiguity of textiles as carriers of meaning, as well as for processes of self-expression and self-identification. The theme of upcycling is also embedded in the chosen names: when new garments are created from existing textiles, their original meaning is recontextualized and supplemented by new layers of interpretation. As a result, the new work inherently embodies an ambiguity that merges past and present associations.

DE LA VIE

Bachelor Collection 2024

Designers such as Martin Margiela and Rei Kawakubo have made extensive use of upcycling in their practices. They regarded stains, traces of wear, and signs of use not as flaws, but as elements that contribute to the aesthetic and conceptual value of a garment. By transforming worn and discarded materials into new designs, they became pioneers of upcycling within a deconstructivist fashion context.

Inspired by the deconstructivist design principles of this era, the collection radically integrates these approaches into the process of upcycling. This demonstrates the close intersection of deconstructivism and sustainable design and highlights how both practices are intrinsically connected. Through this approach, upcycling becomes not only a sustainable method but also a conceptual design strategy that challenges conventional notions of value, perfection, and authorship in fashion.

Recurring design motifs within the collection include the fragmentation and transformation of form, asymmetry and the deliberate breaking of symmetry, the use of unconventional and experimental materials, and a consciously unfinished aesthetic, often manifested through raw edges.

Using deconstructivist principles, the collection positions upcycling as a practice shaped by ambiguity, transformation and

reinterpretation.

3D MODELING

Molino Winkler Scholarship 2023

3D modeling plays a crucial role in modern product design by I used Solidworks to model the logo of my brand - a flower - in enabling designers to visualize ideas with high precision early in various different shapes, forms and sizes just experimenting the development process. It allows for faster iteration, realistic with the program and shapes. The result of this are two proportion and fit checks, and clearer communication across products: An incense holder and a keychain. design, development, and production teams. By reducing the need for physical samples and accelerating decision-making, The flower for the keychain was 3D printed and then made into a 3D modeling increases efficiency while opening new creative mold using liquid silicone. During the Molino-Winkler Scholarship I therefore experimented with 3D Design to test this substantially different approach to The incense holder had a more direct approach. I reverted the 3D Product Design for myself.

modelled flower into a pouring mold digitally and printed it in flexible TPU. Doing it this way, i had the mold directly and poured the incense holder out of concrete. This approach was even faster and made sure that the results were even better.

NOWRUBI

ATÉLIER BERLIN

NOWRUBI was founded in 2022 by Ruben Nowak and is a Berlin-based design company that harmoniously combines streetwear elements with a military background and racing experience, presented through ready-towear collections.

Conceptualized from a narrative perspective, NOWRUBI serves as a tribute to Ruben Nowak’s life as a racing driver and officer in the German Air Force, as well as a modern interpretation of his new life as a fashion designer in Berlin — surrounded by many creative and inspiring people.

Internship summer 2024

During this internship, I was a Design Assistant and worked closely together with the founder. This role included helping during all stages of collection development, from trend- and material-research to developing patterns, sewing prototypes and pattern-adjusting up until being involved in the serial

production of garments.

Additionally I was involved in the Styling and overall organization for the lookbook shooting as well as the NEO Fashion Runway show where i gained valuable insights into production planning, team coordination and the creative realization of concepts. Furthermore I helped represent the Brand at the international trade fair CIFF in Copenhagen.
